Girl Powerful

“GIRL TALK” JUST GOT A GLOW UP

The 2020 pandemic has created a new set of issues for young girls as many are more isolated than ever before as social restrictions continue throughout the country. Suicide is the second-leading cause of death in teen girls and Girl Powerful,®: is on a mission  to make all girls feel seen, valued and heard.™

As youth depression rates climb while in the midst of the pandemic, Girl Powerful has pivoted its popular offerings to reach even more youth through a variety of ways including:

· 10 week enrichment program -  a dedicated safe space where female youth are informally encouraged to build positive self-esteem, set and achieve goals, manage emotions, develop a mind body connection, self-reflect and find value in female unity.

· Girl Powerful Journal - guided journals that help each student balance life outside of academics to improve their physical well being and social progress to create a strong sense of self.

· Girl Powerful Mirror Cards - designed to help you see the strength inside of you, these cards are meant to inspire a daily self-love routine by practicing affirmations in the mirror to step into your power.

· Self Care Summits - enhanced programming in partnership with influencers and high-profile brands that focus on specific topics - such as physical health - for an immersive one-day virtual experience.

“The formative years of childhood are where we most easily and swiftly learn habits that we carry with us throughout our lives - like how we talk to ourselves, how we vocalize our boundaries and what we think is most valuable,” said Tedi Serge co-founder, Girl Powerful. “This current generation is dealing with issues that we didn’t have to - social media and the pandemic just to name a few - so it’s even more crucial to create opportunities to offer programmings that’s different from what young girls see in society to help them build good habits.”

As society continues to embrace conversations that are crucial to developing the youth of America, there’s an increased need for organizations that can equip the next generation with the tools necessary to succeed.

Founded by sister-team Sonya and Tedi Serge, Girl Powerful’s philosophy and mental health curriculum is based on social and emotional learning (SEL). Since launching in 2014, nearly 2,400 girls across the country have participated in Girl Powerful’s proprietary programming which features a 10-week virtual after school course, journaling prompts, positive self-talk cards and other activities to assist teen and tween girls to identify how they can be the truest version of themselves.

Girl Powerful is gearing up for its winter virtual Self-Care Summit on December 5, which will focus on foundations for a healthy life including: physical activity, meditation, cooking, money matters and more. Girl Powerful is hoping for 100 girls to attend the day of programming.

“New this year, the one-day summits are some of our favorite programming that we offer. We bring in experts to talk to our participants in a language they understand, which helps foster knowledge that they can take with them to impact their daily decision making process,” said Sonya Serge, co-founder Girl Powerful.

Currently, Girl Powerful programming is offered at a starting rate of $18/hour per student. As such, the organization relies on sponsorships to ensure they reach as many girls as possible throughout the year. With support from donors and partnerships with name brands like Athleta, GoodMylk, H&M and Urban Outfitters, nearly 250 girls have been able to participate in Girl Powerful programs in 2020. Since publishing in 2019, the Girl Powerful journal has been purchased by youth in 30 states and sold more than 5,000 copies.
